빈센트가 즐겨 가던 강가에서 뱃사공을 만난 아르망.

Boatman:  「He didn't seem to care」that it ran off with his lunch, and I thought to myself, "How lonely is this guy that even a thieving crow brightens up his day?" Later that summer, he would hang around these rich boys who threw big boating parties. (까마귀가 자기 점심을 훔쳐 먹어도 그 사람은 개의치 않는 것 같았어요. 그때 생각했죠. "얼마나 와로운 사람이기에 이 남자는 도둑 까마귀조차 반기는걸까?" 늦여름엔 커다란 보트에서 파티를 여는 부잣집 도련님들이랑 어울리기도 했어요.)

*run off with  훔쳐 달아나다
*brighten up  밝히다

「It didn't seem to bother him.」
「It didn't look like he was bothered.」

뱃사공에게서 빈센트가 가셰 박사의 딸과 강가에서 종종 시간을 보냈다는 걸 듣게 된 아르망.

Boatman:  They said they were here to paint, but they took a boat. Couples often do, but I will tell you this. Vincent, 「he looked like he was all right.」 Then he comes here with a girl who I reckon was out of his league, and the next thing I hear he's killed himself. (그들은 그림을 그리러 이곳에 왔다고 했어요. 하지만 보트를 탔죠. 연인들이 보통 그렇죠. 근데 들어봐요. 빈센트는 멀쩡해 보였어요. 근데 자신에겐 좀 과분해 보이는 여자를 데려오더니, 그 다은엔 그가 자살했다는 소식을 듣게 된 거죠.)

「He seemed to be just fine.」
「There didn't appear to be anything wrong with him.」

아들린에게 빈센트와 마르그리트가 친했는지 물어보는 아르망

Armand: I was wondering. Were Vincent and Marguerite friends? 「The boatman said they were friendly.」 (궁금한 게 있는데요.)
Adeline: Well, that would explain why she takes flowers to his grave every day. Oh, and it might explain that big argument between him and the doctor.
Armand: What argument?

*I was wondering ~인지 궁금했다

「The boatman implied that they were close.」
「According to the boatman, they were friends.」

미르그리트에게 빈센트와 가깝게 지냈는지 묻지만 기대했던 답을 듣지 못하는 아르망

Armand: You must've been friendly. (친한 사이였던 것 같군요.)
Marguerite: I wouldn't say so. He was here to see father. He was his doctor, and he became his friend. 「It's hardly surprising.」 They were both artists. They liked the same painters. They understood each other. (그렇지는 않아요. ... 그리 놀랄 일은 아니예요. ...)

*hardly 거의 ~할 수 없다, 거의 ~이 아니다

「It's not surprising at all.」
「No one should be surprised by it.」
